Anyone learning audio editing through YouTube and online forums knows the problem: you hop from video to video, picking up individual tricks but never a system. An EQ tutorial here, an explanation of compression there, a mastering episode somewhere else, and in the end the thread is missing. Audio editing courses at Tonstudio Leipzig are built differently: a set curriculum, clear modules, a defined path. Six course types are available: a mixing foundation course for beginners, a mixing advanced course, a mastering course for people mixing at home who want to master themselves, a vocal recording course for singer-songwriters with a home studio, a DAW starter course for your software (Reaper, Cubase, Ableton Live, FL Studio, Studio One, Bitwig, Reason) and a beat making course for aspiring hobby producers. Every course is divided into four to twelve modules, depending on the package: the mini course as a compact start, the full course as the standard and the pro course with a practical project at the end.
On site at the studio on Bernhard-Göring-Straße or online by Zoom, depending on what suits the module. Recording modules are strongest on site, mixing theory works excellently online. The audio editing courses cover six areas, from a complete start in mixing to pro mastering. Every course has a set curriculum built from modules. You can also take several courses one after another if you want to work through different areas.
For complete beginners with no systematic mixing experience. Modules: signalflow and levels, EQ and filters, dynamics and compression, time based effects (reverb, delay), stereo image and depth, your first mix of your own. By the end you understand why a mix sounds clear, and you can mix your own material yourself in principle.
For anyone with the basics of mixing who wants to go deeper. Modules: bus routing & building submixes, sidechain compression, parallel compression, saturation & tape emulation, mid-side processing, stereo image tricks, building the mix bus, moving into mastering. By the end your mixes stand up next to commercial releases.
For people mixing at home who no longer want to pay for external mastering on every release. Modules: frequency balance in the master, stereo stability, loudness strategy (LUFS, true peak), limiting without distortion, consistency across several tracks for EPs and albums, streaming loudness standards. By the end you can bring your own mixes up to streaming level.
For singer-songwriters, hobby singers and hobby rappers with a home studio of their own. Modules: microphone technique & position, room acoustics in a bedroom studio, take strategy & comping, editing & cleanup, pitch correction (classic & Auto-Tune), vocal effects. By the end your home recordings no longer sound like a bedroom but like a controlled setup.
Specific to your DAW: Reaper, Cubase, Ableton Live, FL Studio, Studio One, Bitwig or Reason. Modules: interface & navigation, recording & organising tracks, MIDI & virtual instruments, plugins & effect routing, automation, mixing & bouncing. By the end you navigate your DAW confidently enough that the software stops being in the way and becomes a tool.
For aspiring hobby producers who want to build their own beats, for themselves or for others. Modules: drum programming & groove, bass lines, melodic elements, choosing & editing samples, arrangement (intro, drop, bridge, outro), the basics of sound design, preparing the mix for vocals later. By the end you have your first beats ready to release.
Every course type is bookable in three sizes: the compact mini course as a start, the standard full course for a solid base, and the pro course with a practical project for the full scope. No contract, and you extend block of modules by block of modules.
Four selected core modules of 90 minutes each, with homework between the appointments. It makes sense if you first want to see whether structured learning is the right way for you, or if you only need the basics of one area without going deep. Including a check at the end of the module to see whether the topics have landed.
The most popular package. Eight modules of 90 minutes, the complete path of one course type from the start to advanced use. Weekly or fortnightly, with small pieces of homework and a check at the end of each module. By the end you can apply the topic independently, whether mixing, mastering, beat making or vocal recording. Including a check in after module 4.
The full scope. Twelve modules of 90 minutes plus a practical project of your own at the end: your own single, EP or album production, where you apply everything you have learned independently, with targeted feedback from me. Two people take the course together: bandmates, producer friends, a parent and child, a learning pair. Both get attention, both work on their own material. About 50 % more on the base package, but still considerably cheaper per person than two separate courses.
The course by Zoom or Teams, at the same price as on site. It makes sense with a long journey, with a home studio of your own that I optimise through screen sharing, or for mixing theory modules that work just as well online. A mix is bookable (recording modules on site, mixing modules online).
Bookable on top of the full course, already included in the pro course: after finishing the curriculum, guided support through your own practical project, for example your own EP mix, your first self-mastered album or your first single produced entirely by you. You do the work, I give feedback and correct where needed.
Anyone who has tried Skillshare, Udemy or an online mixing platform knows the problem: a lot of information, little application to your own material, no real check on your skills. In the studio course it is different, and three factors make the difference.
Every module has a clear topic, builds on the previous one and leads to the next. You know at the start what you will be able to do at the end, and you work forward in a structured way instead of hopping from video to video and realising after three weeks that you have not learned anything coherent. A curriculum gives clarity and cuts out the wasted time of learning alone.
Between modules you get small pieces of homework that you apply to your own material. At the start of the next module we look at the result together: what worked, what did not yet, and why. At the end of every module there is a short skill check to see whether the topic has really landed. That way there are no gaps that become a problem later in the pro course.
From the first module I work on your real project, not on demo songs from a learning database. Your mix, your tracks, your beats, your mastering source. That anchors every bit of learning in your real material instead of leaving it abstract. After the course you can carry on independently in exactly that material, and in the pro course the result lands directly on the streaming platforms as your practical project.
These three factors are the difference between a course that is forgotten after three modules and one that changes the whole way you approach your own audio work.
A course with a set path is more than a block of audio education. It changes how you approach audio work afterwards: more systematically, faster, without constantly searching.
For most people the penny drops in the very first module: signal flow, the logic of levels, why the order of your plugins is decisive. What was abstract before becomes concrete. Many students say at the end of module 1 that if they had known this a year ago, their first EP would have sounded completely different.
After the mini course (four modules) you hear your own mix with different ears. You hear where the sub bass gets muddy, where the vocals do not cut through, where the mids are too crowded. That is not a technical sensation, it is systematic listening, and it stays with you.
After the full course you have a complete workflow of your own in your head, from opening the first track to the final bounce. You stop searching for tutorials and know when to do what. Your own mixes come together faster, decisions feel more certain, and the old material from before the course suddenly sounds naive.
The pro course ends with a practical project of your own, your single or EP. When the mastering runs, your master sits at the loudness standard and you upload the track to Spotify, that is a different moment from a release produced by someone else. You have done the whole way yourself. It changes your relationship with your own music.
Once you have learned audio work systematically, you can apply that knowledge for years: on your own songs, on podcast recordings, on family memories, mixing for friends. Audio skills do not go out of date. Plugins change, but understanding frequency, dynamics and the stereo image stays. An investment with a long half life.
Many students start with the mixing foundation course, then add the mastering course, and later the beat making course as well. Every course builds skills that are needed again in the next. Over two years that grows into complete audio skills that many bedroom producers would otherwise never reach systematically.

Think briefly before your enquiry about what your real goal is: learning mixing systematically, taking on mastering yourself, producing your own beats, recording vocals cleanly at home. You need a DAW of your own to practise in outside the studio, otherwise the homework goes nowhere. If you do not have one yet, I recommend the DAW starter course for the DAW you want before the mixing course. Reaper is very affordable for beginners and fully featured, a good option if you do not have a licence.
For the mixing and mastering courses you need audio material of your own: your own multitrack recordings, your own beats, older demos of your own. If you do not have anything of your own yet, you can use stems from the internet as learning material (there are freely available multitrack sets), but your own material is considerably more motivating.
The mini course (four modules) takes a month at weekly pace, the full course (eight modules) two to four months, the pro course (twelve modules plus the project) three to six months. If you want to compress everything into one weekend, a workshop is the right thing. Courses need time between modules so that the learning can settle. Plan for that honestly.
Between modules you get homework that multiplies what you take away. Plan two to four hours a week to work on your material at home. Without that practice time much of the course goes nowhere. It is like a language course where you do nothing between the lessons. If you cannot keep that time free, lessons rather than a course may suit you better.
If you book the pro course, think beforehand about which practical project you want to work on at the end: your own single, a four track EP, a complete album mix, a set of masters for a release in the next six months. The clearer the project, the better I can tailor the last modules to it.

You get the exact overview of the modules for your course: which topic when, what to bring each time, which homework sits in between. You choose the format (mini, full, pro), the rhythm (weekly or fortnightly) and the place (on site, online or a mix). Booking without contracts, and you extend block of modules by block of modules.
Every module lasts 90 minutes with a clear topic, theory along the way, and practice on your own material as the main part. Homework between modules to apply it at home. At the start of each following module a short review of the homework. At the end of every module a skill check to see whether the topic has landed. Appointments can be moved up to 24 hours beforehand.
At the end of the course there is a final module where all the steps you have learned are combined on your own material. With the pro course it then moves into your own practical project, a single, an EP or an album mix, where you apply everything independently with targeted feedback from me. You leave with a finished set of skills and a concrete audio result.
Tonstudio Leipzig is in the south of the city, easy to reach by car, tram and train. With courses a mix is very popular: recording modules on site, mixing and theory modules online.
Students from Connewitz, Südvorstadt, Schleußig, Plagwitz, Lindenau and Markkleeberg reach the studio in under 20 minutes. For modules involving recording, or mastering on the studio monitors, the weekly appointment on site is worth it, while online remains an option for theory and mixing modules.
If you live in Gohlis, Eutritzsch, Möckern or Wahren, long courses often combine on site and online modules: recording on site, theory online. That keeps the course regular without the full journey every week.
Halle, Merseburg, Schkeuditz, Markranstädt, all under 30 minutes by car or 40 minutes by train. For courses running several months a mix works well: recording and practical project modules on site, all the others online.
From Borna, Grimma, Wurzen, Torgau, Riesa, and from Chemnitz and Dresden too, students come for the recording modules on site while all the other modules run online. That makes even long courses over several months workable without the journey becoming a burden.
Students from Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Cologne, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Hanover and Bremen often book the entire course online. Mixing, mastering, the DAW starter course, beat making and the theory parts of the vocal recording course all work excellently by Zoom, with screen sharing into your home studio. No travelling, and weekly reliability.
