A real keepsake
which has become rare in a digital world

Something you can hold in your hands for when Spotify streams do not carry the emotional weight.

Over the last ten years music has become almost entirely digital. Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, everything streams and nothing is tangible any more. That is practical for everyday life, but on special occasions it suddenly is not enough. When you have recorded your first song, you want to hold it in your hands, not only as a Spotify link somewhere in the algorithm. When you are looking for a wedding gift for the closest family members, handing over a USB stick is less moving than a real CD in a jewel case with your photo on the front. When a hen party gets a funny custom song as a surprise, a physical CD with a silly cover design lands very differently from a WhatsApp audio. At Tonstudio Leipzig CD production comes from exactly that thought: some occasions deserve a keepsake that does not disappear into the cloud but can sit on a shelf or go into a drawer with the jewellery.

Six typical situations are covered. Your first recording held in your hands. That particular moment when your first song exists as more than a file. A wedding gift with the song from the ceremony or a piece you composed yourselves, as a keepsake for family members. Hen parties and milestone birthdays with funny custom songs as a physical surprise. A family memory with songs from grandparents or family pieces sung by you, as a bridge between generations. A workshop keepsake from studio workshops with children, families or small groups. Small indie promo runs of 10 to 12 CDs to hand out personally at gigs or among friends.

Three packages depending on the scope: the standard CD with a ready made design and printing as the fastest way to a finished CD, the individual CD with a design worked out together, your own cover photo and logo, as the most popular option, Complete package with a cover photo shoot at the studio, developing a logo and a complete layout concept as the premium version. For detailed advice on the design idea and the occasion, book the initial consultation in the studio shop. For short questions you can reach me by email or WhatsApp message. Current prices and the specific run sizes are listed transparently in the studio shop, deliberately not on this page, so that prices can change at any time without this description having to be adjusted.

Occasions for gifts

Six typical occasions where a real CD carries more than a Spotify link.

CD production does not make equal sense for every occasion. Here are six situations where a physical CD really is worth more than handing something over digitally, because the keepsake counts, because the moment is special, because people should hold something in their hands.

A first recording

Your first song, something to hold

You have recorded your first song at the studio, perhaps as part of a workshop, a coaching session or a regular session, and suddenly notice that as an MP3 alone it does not feel right. The CD in your hand is the real moment when having sung becomes having made something. Some people keep that first CD their whole life. It is the tangible proof that it really happened.

Wedding

The ceremony song as a keepsake for the family

You had a song for your ceremony recorded at the studio, perhaps a composition of your own or a special cover version, and you want to give it to parents, grandparents and witnesses as a keepsake. A CD in a jewel case with your wedding photo on the front lands very differently from a Spotify link in a WhatsApp group. It goes on the shelf, it gets framed, it is brought out and played again years later. A short run of four to eight copies is usually exactly right for the closest family.

Hen party & birthday

A funny custom song as a surprise gift

You have recorded a custom song at the studio for a hen party or a milestone birthday, perhaps a cover version with rewritten lyrics, a parody you wrote yourselves, an anti love anthem. Handing it over as a real CD in a cover you designed yourselves is far more surprising and far funnier than a WhatsApp audio. The cover design can be silly here: inside jokes, photos from tipsy evenings, embarrassing childhood pictures as the cover image.

A family memory

Grandparents' songs as a bridge between generations

Your grandmother has sung the same folk songs for decades, your grandfather once had a band of his own. Your parents have their wedding classics, and you want to preserve those memories before they are lost. A studio recording of these family songs, in a jewel case with historic family photos as the cover, becomes an inheritance across generations. Something your children, and perhaps their children, can still hold and listen to, instead of it disappearing into the cloud.

A workshop keepsake

The result of a studio workshop as a memento

You have taken part in a studio workshop, perhaps with your children, with a small group of friends, with the family. At the end of the workshop you recorded something together: a song, a story, a piece you composed yourselves. A run of CDs for everyone who took part turns the workshop into a lasting experience instead of a fleeting memory. With family workshops involving children in particular, the CD is often brought out again years later.

A small indie run

Promo CDs for gigs and handing out personally

You are an indie artist playing small gigs at Leipzig venues or among friends and want 10 to 12 CDs as a personal promo set, to hand out after concerts, to give to particular fans, as a replacement for a business card with real keepsake value. That number is exactly the scale where printing at the studio makes sense. For real quantities from 50 copies upwards it goes to external pressing plants; for small personal runs, handmade studio production is the more honest way.

Packages

Three packages from a fast standard design to a complete cover concept with a photo shoot.

Three packages depending on the scope and the significance of the occasion. Current prices and the specific run sizes are listed transparently in the studio shop; this page is about the service itself.

Standard CD

A ready made design, the fast way to a finished CD

A lean way in for urgent gifts or when the cover design is not the point. A standard design from ready made templates depending on the occasion, your audio cleanly mastered and burned onto branded discs, delivered in a sturdy jewel case. Preparing the print data is always included. It makes sense for workshop keepsakes with a standard character, or when the CD itself rather than the design plays the main role.

Complete package

A cover photo shoot at the studio plus a complete design concept

The premium package for particularly considered occasions. Before the CD production, a cover photo shoot at the studio with lighting and several setups, then developing the cover together with logo design, several layout suggestions and variations in mood. It makes sense for occasions with real symbolic weight, such as a golden wedding anniversary, a milestone birthday with a piece composed personally, or a small indie promo run with a concept behind it. It needs more lead time, but the result carries accordingly.

Cover photo shoot

For when the cover photo is to be taken freshly at the studio. Lighting with several setups, different compositions, careful post production. It makes sense when there is no suitable photo, or when the cover image should deliberately match the mood of the occasion. Already included in the complete package, otherwise available as a separate extra.

Logo development

A small logo or wordmark of your own that suits the mood of the song or the occasion. It makes sense with your own recordings released under a personal artist name, or with wedding initials, family crest motifs or similar elements of identity. Developed together in the concept conversation, with several versions to choose from.

Print data for external pressing

For when you want to have a larger run of 50 or 100 copies pressed at a professional plant yourself, but want to keep the cover design from the studio concept. Handover of correctly prepared print data in the professional format with the right bleed, colour profile and print dimensions. That way the design developed together can be used for external printing too.

What sets me apart

Three factors that set this studio CD production apart from online print shops for large quantities.

Anyone searching for CD printing finds hundreds of online pressing plants, all with the same templates, the same standard designs and minimum runs from 50 or 100 copies. Three factors make the difference with this handmade studio version.

Genuinely short runs instead of minimums built for mass production

Standard online plants demand minimum runs of 50, 100 or 200 copies, which is fine for commercial releases but pointless when you actually need four or six CDs as a wedding gift. Here a short run of two copies is explicitly welcome, which would not be possible at online printers, or would be unreliable in quality with non professional suppliers. Printed by hand at the studio means any number from 2 to 12 is workable, at consistent quality.

A design made together instead of picking a template

Online plants work with ready made templates from large libraries: you choose one of thousands of interchangeable designs that only roughly fits. Here cover designs come out of a personal conversation about the concept. I go through the occasion, the mood, the people and any personal symbols with you. Cover photos can be taken freshly at the studio, logos are developed to match, and the layout is created specifically for your CD. The result carries the personality of the occasion instead of looking like a template.

Packed by hand and handed over at the studio instead of anonymous shipping

With online plants you get an anonymous box with no connection to the person who made the CDs. Here every CD is printed at the studio, carefully packed into the jewel case with printing and inlay, and can be handed over in person at the studio if you live in Leipzig or nearby. People often find collecting it a pleasant way to finish, because you get the CD directly from the person who made the recording with you. If it is posted, it is packed securely.

These three factors, genuinely short runs, a design made together instead of a template, and handmade studio packing, make the difference between a CD that looks like a thousand others and one that really suits the occasion.

What stays

What a physical CD changes, far beyond the moment of handover.

A real CD in a jewel case does not only work the first time it is unwrapped. It gets brought out again weeks, months and sometimes years later, because it is something tangible that does not get lost in the digital stream.

01 When it is unwrapped

Your own work in your hands for the first time

When you hold the finished CD for the first time after weeks or months of studio work, with your photo on the front, your name on the cover and your songs inside, something emotional happens. An abstract studio experience suddenly becomes a tangible object. Many people describe it as only now really having done it. The digital file does not feel finished, the physical CD does.

02 At the handover

People react differently than to a stream link

When your grandmother gets a real CD for your anniversary, with your photo on the front, in a sturdy jewel case, she reacts differently than to a WhatsApp message with a Spotify link. She holds the keepsake in her hands, she can show it to her friends, she knows where to put it. That physical presence can carry an emotional depth that is hard to reach digitally, especially with older recipients or on occasions with emotional weight.

03 In the weeks afterwards

The CD finds a permanent place

Where digital content disappears into cloud services, a physical CD finds a permanent place: on the shelf, in a drawer, next to the other important family keepsakes. It is visible, it gets picked up now and then, and it recalls the occasion even without being played. That visibility is an important difference from digital memories, which only exist when you actively go looking for them.

04 At the next family gathering

The CD becomes an anchor for conversation

At the next family gathering the CD is often brought out, either to listen to together or simply to show. Asking whether everyone has heard the CD a grandchild or a daughter recorded is an anchor for conversation that rarely comes about digitally. The gift becomes a recurring point of identification for the person who made the recording, and a source of pride for the family who received the keepsake.

05 Years later

What would be lost digitally is still there physically

Spotify streams disappear when an account is given up, when platforms vanish, when a cloud migration goes wrong. A physical CD in a jewel case is still there in twenty years: on the shelf, in the memory box, in the family drawer. A grandparents' wedding song on CD can still be held by a grandchild, even if the digital platforms have long since changed. That durability is an often underestimated advantage of physical keepsakes.

06 At later occasions

The first CD becomes a tradition

When the first CD production has worked, been well received, carried emotionally and stayed visible, it often becomes a tradition. At the next occasion the thought of making another CD comes almost by itself. A one-off attempt at a gift becomes a recurring format for the important moments of a family, a group of friends or your own creative development. That is the long term effect: physical keepsakes become routine rather than a one-off exception.

Preparation

How to make your CD production genuinely good.

Good preparation makes the difference between a standard CD and one that really suits the occasion. Six points from many gift productions.

1
Settling the occasion

What is the CD actually for?

Think it through before your enquiry: is the CD a wedding gift, a keepsake of your own, a bit of fun for a hen party, a family memory or a small indie promo run? The occasion affects the mood of the cover, the number of copies, the timing and the choice of package. For occasions with real symbolic weight such as a golden wedding anniversary or your first song, the complete package is worth it; for urgent hen party gifts, the standard version.

2
Thinking about the number

How many people should get a CD?

For weddings typically four to eight copies for the closest family, for hen party gifts often two to four (for the main person and a few others involved), for family memories it varies with the size of the family, for your own recordings often two to six for the people closest to you, for small indie promo runs 10 to 12. The minimum is two copies, and the maximum in studio printing is twelve.

3
The cover photo

Which photo goes on the cover?

Three options: a photo you already have (smartphone pictures work if the quality is good), a new cover photo shoot at the studio with lighting (which makes sense for your own recordings where you are building an identity), or a standard template from the studio (which makes sense for urgent gifts). With your own photos: it is best to send three to five to choose from, so that I can pick the best one for the cover.

4
Design wishes

Which mood should the cover carry?

Romantic and warm for wedding gifts, silly and lively for hen party custom songs, classic and timeless for family memories, artistic and striking for small indie promo runs, colourful and childlike for family workshop keepsakes. Sending example covers by other artists or mood images with your enquiry helps enormously in settling the mood in the concept conversation.

5
The delivery date

When does the CD have to be finished?

With a standard design about a week of lead time, with an individual design about two to three weeks, with the complete package including a cover photo shoot about three to four weeks. For urgent occasions like a wedding, a hen party or a birthday, enquiring four to six weeks before the date is ideal, so that everything stays relaxed even with express delivery. Under real time pressure it can be produced faster, but that limits the depth of the design and the care in the concept.

6
Printing wishes

Printing on the CD and an inlay cover, yes or no?

Full colour printing directly on the surface of the CD and a full colour inlay cover are optional extras. Both make the CD look considerably better made. For gifts and personal keepsakes they are clearly recommended, because the visual impression carries a large part of the experience. For pure indie promo runs or quick workshop keepsakes, a simpler version without printing can make sense too.

How a session runs

How your CD production works actually goes.

So that you know what to expect, four structured steps from the first enquiry to the finished CD in your hand or in the parcel.

01

Enquiry & initial consultation about the concept

For simple standard design orders, ordering directly in the studio shop is quick and straightforward. For an individual design or the complete package, the paid concept consultation in the studio shop is worth it: I go through the occasion, the recipients, the mood of the cover, the photo strategy and all the practical details with you. For short questions before ordering, an email or a WhatsApp message works too.

02

Developing the design & an optional photo shoot

After the concept conversation the cover design takes shape, with your photos and wishes in the individual version, or with a photo shoot at the studio beforehand in the complete package. You get design drafts to approve, you can comment and I adjust them. Only after your final approval does it go to print, so there are no surprises at the end.

03

Printing at the studio

The CDs are burned onto branded discs at the studio, given full colour printing, and the inlay cover is printed and placed in the jewel case. Every single CD is checked for compatibility so that it plays reliably on all common devices. Packed by hand in a sturdy jewel case, with the whole run carefully packaged for posting or collection.

04

Posting or collection at the studio

Three options depending on what you want: collecting it yourself at the studio on Bernhard-Göring-Straße in Zentrum-Süd with no shipping costs, standard delivery by DHL taking three to five working days, or express delivery by DHL for urgent gifts taking one to two working days. If you collect, you receive the CDs directly in your hands, which on special occasions often feels like a pleasant way to finish.

Location & collection

Printed at the studio in Zentrum-Süd, collection or delivery anywhere in the country.

The CD production takes place entirely at Tonstudio Leipzig. Handover directly at the studio if you collect, or delivery by DHL standard and DHL express anywhere in Germany.

Collection at the studio

Handover in person at the studio in Zentrum-Süd

If you live in Leipzig or nearby, collecting it yourself at the studio is the nicest option: no shipping costs, handover in person, and often a short listen to the finished CD at the studio. It makes particular sense when the CD is handed over during a recording session, photo shoot or coaching hour you had planned anyway, because then there is no extra journey.

DHL standard

Standard delivery in three to five working days nationwide

DHL standard delivery for relaxed timing anywhere in Germany. The CDs are packed carefully with padding so that the jewel case and its contents arrive undamaged. With several CDs they are packed securely together. It makes sense for occasions that are not urgent, or when you have enough lead time before the date: at least one to two weeks before it needs to arrive is safe.

DHL express

Express delivery in one to two working days for urgent dates

DHL express for urgent gifts such as wedding presents planned at short notice, hen party surprises or birthdays with little lead time. Delivery typically the next or the second working day after posting. It makes sense when you are ordering just in time and want to be sure the CD arrives before the occasion.

Leipzig & the surrounding area

Particularly convenient for people in Leipzig

If you come from Connewitz, Südvorstadt, Schleußig, Plagwitz, Markkleeberg, Halle or further around Leipzig, collecting it yourself is almost always the best choice: a short journey, handover in person, no shipping costs. Combined with a studio appointment you had planned anyway (a recording, a shoot, coaching) there is no extra trip. The studio address is Bernhard-Göring-Straße 17 in 04107 Leipzig, in the middle of Zentrum-Süd.

Anywhere in Germany

Delivery anywhere in Germany

CDs are sent nationwide. DHL serves every German address, whether Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Cologne or smaller places in rural areas. Delivery to blocks of flats, care homes, hospitals or business addresses works without trouble too. With unusual delivery addresses, just let me know so that the packaging can be adjusted (particularly secure packing for a long journey, for example).

Address

Bernhard-Göring-Straße 17 in Zentrum-Süd

The studio is at Bernhard-Göring-Straße 17 in 04107 Leipzig, in the middle of Zentrum-Süd, within walking distance of the Karli and the city centre. Parking in the courtyard, step-free access on the ground floor, and small cafés nearby for breaks during concept conversations or photo shoots. Easy to reach by tram or S-Bahn.

Produced on branded discs, with compatibility checked for all common players.

Short runs from 2 copies.

Short runs from 2 CDs up to 12 CDs are possible directly at the studio.

The The minimum is two copies.

Exactly the scale for personal gifts, workshop keepsakes, family memories or small indie promo runs.

Slightly larger numbers for particular needs can be discussed on request, so please use the initial consultation.

I do not handle real quantities from 50 or 100 copies upwards, see the next question.

For larger runs my studio printing is the wrong choice.

At 100 copies or more, a professional CD pressing plant with specialised printing technology and a completely different price level is worth it.

I know experienced printing partners and am happy to pass on the contact as part of an initial consultation.

I concentrate on what is realistically doable at the studio: small, personally designed keepsake runs with a handmade character.

Three options are possible:

a standard design: a ready made design with no major adjustment, the fastest way.

An individual design: I choose suitable cover photos with you and develop the layout, the wordmark and the mood together in the concept conversation.

Your own design: you bring your finished cover design yourself and I only handle the printing and the print data.

With all three options the print data preparation is included.

Three options:

Something you already have: I use a photo from your phone, and if the quality is good that is often enough.

A new photo at the studio: I take a suitable photo during your recording or cover design session.

A standard template: a ready made cover that suits your occasion, romantic standard motifs for wedding gifts, adjusted accordingly for family CDs.

For more elaborate cover photo sessions the separate photo shoot package is the better choice.

A standard design: about a week from ordering to the finished CD.

An individual design: about two to three weeks.

Complete package with a cover photo shoot: about three to four weeks.

For urgent gifts, enquire in good time, ideally four to six weeks before the date, so that everything stays relaxed even with express delivery.

Three options:

Collecting it yourself directly at the studio on Bernhard-Göring-Straße in Zentrum-Süd with no shipping costs, which makes sense if you are coming from Leipzig or nearby.

Standard delivery by DHL taking three to five working days, as the cheapest option.

Express delivery by DHL taking one to two working days for urgent dates.

With larger runs, secure packing with extra protection.

You find the exact current prices transparently in the studio shop at shop.leipzig-tonstudio.de.

There you can combine the number of copies, the design version, printing on the CD, the inlay option and how it is delivered and see the final price.

The prices are deliberately on the shop page rather than here, so that they can be adjusted at any time without this page becoming out of date.

The prices are worked out so that even a mini run of 2 or 4 CDs as a gift is realistically affordable .

Before a file goes to print it has to be technically clean:

the right bleed, the correct dimensions for the jewel case inlay and the CD surface, the right colour profile, a proper PDF export with embedded fonts.

A technical step that comes up with every CD production.

With your own designs I check the print data beforehand and adjust it if something is not right.

For detailed conversations about the concept about the design idea and the choice of package, book the initial consultation as a paid session directly in the studio shop.

It makes particular sense with personal gift projects, because settling the concept is what makes the difference between a standard cover and a personal keepsake.

For short questions about organisational matters, you can reach me by email or WhatsApp message.

WhatsApp is often the fastest way. Getting in touch by phone works too.

In studio printing I deliberately only do short runs of up to 12 copies.

For anything between 20 and 50 copies I talk it through with you in the initial consultation, whether it is still sensibly doable in extended studio printing or whether an external printing partner is the better choice.

At 50, 100 or more copies it is definitely an external printer, and I am happy to put you in touch with experienced pressing plants in Germany.

I would rather be honest than offer a service I cannot deliver at the same quality.

This page is written for private clients, hobby musicians and indie artists with personal gift occasions or small indie runs.

If you work with a record deal, a major label or a commercial marketing budget and need larger CD productions with professional pressing and distribution, I am happy to put you in touch with specialised CD pressing plants.

For the audio side there is also the separate business site of Tonstudio Leipzig.

Ready to hold your music as a real CD?

Let me plan your CD with you.

Write me a short note about what you have in mind: which occasion, roughly how many copies, whether it is a standard design or one created together, whether you already have a cover photo or whether a photo shoot should be added. For simple standard orders you order directly in the studio shop, where the current prices are shown transparently. For individual gift concepts or complete packages, the paid concept consultation in the shop is worth it: I develop the cover idea together with you and settle all the details. For short questions a WhatsApp message or a brief email works too. If something does not fit the scope, such as runs of 50 or 100 copies, I say so honestly and am happy to put you in touch with professional pressing plants.
